Sylvia Riley is an artisan dyer and designer. Fascinated with the different methodologies of applying colour to fabric, Sylvia has learned from dye masters around the globe. She has developed her own unique style, often combining different techniques to create rich complex textiles. Among the techniques used to colour the fabrics are painting on silk, shibori, batik, mordant printing, tannin transfer and natural dyeing. The fabrics are made with high quality natural fibres.
The dyed textiles are transformed into elegant timeless garments and accessories. The principal philosophies Sylvia pursues are sustainable design, reduction in waste, simple elegant lines and timeless design. As each fabric is dyed individually, every item is unique.
The garments are designed and made in her studio in Sydney.
Sylvia is a member of the Society of Arts and Crafts of New South Wales, North Shore Craft Group, World Shibori Network. She sells her work through Craft NSW gallery, Sturt Gallery and selected retail outlets.
Sylvia graduated from COFA with a M.Art (Painting) and has a Cert IV in Applied fashion technology.
