Ruth Fugar

Ruth Fugar is a potter who produces textural and sometimes quirky ceramic homewares in her picturesque studio in rural Glenorie.
Growing up in a rural environment spending the majority of my time outdoors immersed in nature, it was inevitable that nature and the wider environment would remain as the biggest inspiration for my ceramic works.
My artist practice reflects my eye for detail, love of texture and a willingness to explore what is capable with the ceramics medium. Each ceramic piece is hand made offering a rustic aesthetic and unique sense of charm, where the imperfections add to their distinctive character.
The connection I hold with clay has been significantly developed over the years, beginning as a child with a love of mud to at present where I hold a strong love for the earth and it’s soil as manifested through gardening, another passion of mine.
Day to day I am immensely grateful that I have been able to pursue my ceramics dream, where I can produce pottery pieces for both myself and others.

Ruth Fugar

Ruth Fugar is a graduate from Hornsby TAFE Ceramics where she studied glaze technology under Simone Fraser and Trisha Dean. On her decorative garden pieces she uses dry glazes on bisque ware. Ruth also makes functional stoneware pottery both by hand and on the wheel. These pieces are glazed in hardwearing stoneware glazes made to be used and enjoyed in everyday life.

Some of my highlights

Nature and the environment at large is the biggest source of inspiration for me.
My eye for detail, love of texture and willingness to explore the pottery medium to its full potential would be my strengths.
Each ceramic piece I produce is a ‘one off.’ The imperfections in the clay and hand-made nature of each creation gives it is unique rustic charm and character.
